Saakashvili: Russian tanks tried to attack Gori

Georgian army managed to discourage attack Russian tanks a few kilometres from the town of Gori, said Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili.

"They were five kilometers from Gori. But their attack was repelled and they retreated to 20 kilometers from the city ", - Saakashvili announced on Monday by telephone to journalists, transfers Reuters.

Saakashvili also added that 90 per cent affected by Georgia - civilians. "Our losses - is mostly civilians. 90 per cent of our losses - it is the civilian population ", - he said, not naming the number of deaths.

Saakashvili also reiterated statements made the previous day that Russia is trying to shift his government and seize control of Georgia.

"This is not only South Ossetia ... it concerns control over energy transportation routes ", - he said.

In turn, Genshtab Russian news agencies denied reports that the Georgian side to cease fire, calling the words Saakashvili deception, and Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports that Georgian troops are peacekeepers positions on fire.
